“It’s Like That” (2004) was made by the Southern Ladies Animation Group (S.L.A.G.) who was an animation collective based in Melbourne. It used the voices of 3 refugee children held in mandatory detention. They were interviewed over the phone by ABC journalist Jacqueline Arias in 2002. “It’s Like That” is the S.L.A.G’s second film.
The Southern Ladies Animation Group (S.L.A.G) are: Louise Craddock, Susan Earl, Sally Gross, Emma Kelly, Nicole McKinnon, Elizabeth McLennan, Sharon Parker, Dell Stewart, Sophie Raymond, Yuki Wada, Justine Wallace and Diana Ward.
It’s like that played at many international and local film festivals including the Sundance Film festival. Also the 50th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, Germany where Susan Earl and I went along to represent SLAG. It’s like that was screened as part of the Children’s program.
